About MC Thai Massage

Thai massage is an amazing synthesis of many techniques-leaning pressure, reflexology, energy line work, blood stopping, stretching, and yoga. To achieve all of these effects, Thai massage therapists use more parts of their bodies to give a massage than therapists in any other modality. They use their palms, thumbs, feet, elbows, forearms, and knees. The receiver is moved through a wide variety of postures within five positions-supine, side lying, prone, inverted, and seated.

Thai medical philosophy, like other Eastern medical philosophies, stresses the indivisible interdependence of mind, body, and vitality. It advocates treating the whole person and not just a particular symptom. It is based on the holistic point of view that any problem is not simply an illness of a particular part, but rather a disorder of the whole being. All parts of the body are believed to have an organic relationship that exists within an even greater whole–nature. Due to this holistic approach, Thai massage treatments are usually two to three hours long so that a person’s whole body can be addressed and not just a “problem” area.

Thai Massage has been practiced for several thousand years. It is one branch of Thai medicine, which includes massage, diet, medicinal treatment and ritual (spiritual ceremony). The technique involves application of pressure through leaning into the affected body. Just like shiatsu, Thai massage uses pressure along energy channels. (called “sen” in Thailand). Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. The combination of energetic and physical aspects is what makes Thai Massage unique and so effective.

Theory and practice of traditional Thai massage was documented some 2,500 years ago. It has been practiced in more or less its present form for more than 1,000 years in Thailand.
